While Obsidian co-founders Feargus Urquhart and Chris Jones came up with the concept of an "espionage RPG", no one was assigned to lead the project until early 2008. The game's development began in March 2006 after publisher Sega approached Obsidian for a new intellectual property role-playing game. The game features extensive customization and a dialogue stance system that allows players to select dialogues based on three different tones. Played from a third-person perspective, players can confront enemies using firearms, gadgets, martial arts and stealth. Throughout the game, players must make many choices that affect the narrative. Thorton becomes a rogue agent and must unravel an international conspiracy to stop a war. The player assumes control of agent Michael Thorton, a new recruit at a clandestine United States agency called Alpha Protocol, which is given unlimited resources to conduct covert operations on behalf of the government. One character in the game is depicted snorting cocaine from his hand the central character comments that the person is "f*cking high.Alpha Protocol is a 2010 action role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Sega. In one scene, the central character has (implied) sex with a female villain: The villain is shown in underwear and climbs on top of the central character and mounts him sexual activity is never depicted as the scene fades to black. During the course of the game, players can come across exotic dancers dressed in skimpy clothing. Most injuries and deaths result in blood splatter that occasionally pools on the floor.
Players can shoot surrendered enemies at close range with bullets to the stomach, kneecap, and forehead. The most intense depictions of violence occur during interactive cutscenes where players have the option to "spare/wait" or "execute/goodbye" villains. Stealth attacks allow players to sneak up on and stab unsuspecting enemies.
Players use shotguns, assault rifles, machine guns, grenades, and knives to kill enemies. Players travel around the world, navigate through missions that increase characters' skill, and eliminate an assortment of enemies and terrorists. This is an action RPG in which players assume the role of a special agent dispatched to track down stolen munitions and bring terrorists to justice.
